Last night, Philadelphia’s Fillmore pulsed with the unmistakable energy of Greensky Bluegrass, as the progressive string band delivered a set packed with their signature improvisational prowess. The evening hit another level when Tom Hamilton of Joe Russo’s Almost Dead stepped on stage, adding his firebrand guitar to the mix for two unforgettable songs.
Hamilton, no stranger to crossing musical boundaries, joined Greensky for a soaring rendition of Lose My Way, a staple of the band’s deep catalogue. The interplay between his electric leads and the band’s dynamic bluegrass instrumentation created a fusion of sound that sent the crowd into a frenzy. The collaboration didn’t stop there—next came a thrilling take on I Second That Emotion, the Smokey Robinson and the Miracles classic, further proving that Greensky’s fearless approach to bluegrass knows no limits. The crowd, packed with Philadelphia faithful, erupted in appreciation as Hamilton traded licks with Anders Beck’s dobro and Paul Hoffman’s mandolin.
With a performance this electric, Greensky Bluegrass is carrying some serious momentum into the rest of their spring tour. The band is set to hit major cities across the East Coast and Midwest, with upcoming stops in Washington, D.C. at The Anthem (Feb. 7-8), Red Bank, NJ at Count Basie Center for the Arts (Feb. 11), and Brooklyn, NY at the Brooklyn Paramount (Feb. 13), before continuing through the heartland and beyond. Fans can expect the same high-energy jams and potential surprise collaborations as the tour rolls on.
