Moonlight Bloom has announced the release of their sophomore EP, “Walking Trees”, due out on April 14. The songs were recorded during a single intensive day of tracking and mixing at the beautiful hideaway of Spot Studios in Lakewood, CO. Recorded just a month after the release of Moonlight Bloom’s debut self-titled EP, the sophomore effort exhibits a starkly contrasting concept while staying true to the band’s approach to studio work, namely creating a unified piece of art with a collection of music and art. Whereas their debut EP ran to almost 30 minutes with only 4 songs, “Walking Trees” was specifically recorded with concise takes of each song, totaling under 10 minutes, to ensure the EP would fit on 7” vinyl. The EP consists of 2 singles, each paired with a short instrumental interlude, intentionally designed to create a musical arc when listened to from side A through side B of the record. The EP will be available on all major digital platforms on April 14, and the CDs and vinyl – decorated with beautiful hand-illustrated album art – are set to be unveiled at the band’s EP Release Show and Tour Kickoff that same evening at Moe’s in Englewood, CO. The EP release features a stacked bill of hot regional up-and-coming acts as well as a Fort Collins-based Liquid Light Show. The ensuing tour will take the band through other parts of Colorado as well as Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Pennsylvania.
With a short history only going back to Summer of 2016, Moonlight Bloom – consisting of Charlie Harmon (guitar), Dan Timmers (bass) and Andre DuBose (drums) – has been making waves and quickly developing a fanbase in the thriving music scene of Colorado. With a few regional tours behind them, the band has been evolving rapidly and pushing the boundaries of their live performances, the result being a genre-bending, improv-embracing group on a mission to meld the music of 60s/70s psychedelia with modern sounds – the result coming off somewhat like the musical baby of Hendrix and Radiohead with hints of jazz, blues, rock n’ roll, funk and even ambient music.
