Veteran singer-songwriter, guitarist, and storyteller Jamie James—frontman of the influential ’80s rockabilly trio The Kingbees, longtime member of Dennis Quaid & The Sharks, and collaborator with the late Harry Dean Stanton—will release his acclaimed solo album Straight Up on vinyl for the first time on September 12, 2025 via Oglio Records.
Written during a burst of pandemic-era creativity and recorded with a seasoned crew of longtime collaborators, Straight Up is a 10-track set of raw, roots-driven rock ‘n’ blues. Packed with twangy Strat riffs, gritty harmonica, and no-frills storytelling, the album arrives on limited-edition red vinyl, bringing out the warmth and depth that only analog can deliver.
James is joined by his Sharks bandmates—Tom Walsh (drums), Ken Stange (organ), and Tom Mancillas (bass)—infusing the record with both the spirit of his rockabilly roots and a renewed urgency. The result is a collection that bridges eras, celebrating where he’s been while pushing forward with conviction.
Marking 45 years since The Kingbees’ debut, this vinyl release doubles as both a career milestone and a fresh statement from a true rock & roll lifer.
“There’s something magical about hearing Straight Up on vinyl—the warmth, the crackle, the way it demands your full attention,” says James. “I’m thrilled fans can finally experience the album the way I always imagined it: spinning loudly on a turntable.”
With a career that runs through some of the most authentic corners of American music, Jamie James offers Straight Up as both a love letter to rock & roll tradition and a reminder that he’s still very much in the game.
