Goose Concludes Blockbuster Summer Tour with High-Energy Westville Show

Goose returned to the Westville Music Bowl for the sixth time in their career to close out their Summer 2025 tour with another lights out performance. This New Haven, CT venue is like a hometown venue to them, given the proximity to their early base of Wilton, CT. They unfurled a number of fun covers as well as heated jams at the former tennis stadium turned premiere concert venue, and lived up to the adage “Never miss Goose at the Westville.”

The energy started out high during set one, as the band kicked things off with the dual guitar driven “Yeti.” Multi-instrumentalist Peter Anspach danced around the stage while he played his guitar. A smooth transition followed into “Pumped Up Kicks” by Foster the People. Somehow, the band managed to merge both songs together and moved back into a “Pumped Up Yeti,” before ending “Yeti” with an electrifying sequence.

New tune “Iguana Song,” another debut from Viva El Gonzo and also part of their recent release Everything Must Go, was up next. This song brought an immediate mellow jam that saw bassist Trevor Weekz leading as the song progressed. The tempo sped up considerably, and the song went in a dark direction. “One Direction” proceeded, another Everything Must Go track. This tune also had a slow start that launched into the stratosphere courtesy of guitarist Rick Mitarotonda. Weekz also brought this song home.

New cover “Amongster,” which debuted in Cleveland last week, followed, and brought an evil, synth fueled vibe to this indie tune by Polica. Drummer Cotter Ellis slayed the dynamic percussion. This flowed nicely into “All I Need” with the slower, melodic version. Mitarotonda used an echo delay on the vocals. Weekz and Anspach drove the euphonious jam, as the band went on a twenty minute journey with this tune. All members got cooking as the jam progressed, with a sweet blues rock sequence by Mitarotonda that locked everyone in.

The band did not stop as they made their way into “SALT,” which is a relatively newer tune with an infectious bass-line. The jam went deep and manifested those tasty prog rock inspired peaks that Mitarotonda crushes in his sleep. This ended set one on a high note as the band took a much needed break.

As the day began to turn into night, the foursome returned. Anspach took a few moments to celebrate the monumental tour they just finished. He also instructed the fans to check out the cool sliver of the waxing moon that sparkled above the venue. The minor-chord driven “Big Modern!” began set two. Weekz stood out during this new tune, as Anspach got lively as the music progressed. The band glided into an on point “Madhuvan” with a jazz inspired transition. This version was short but sweet, as the band magically landed in “Whip It” by Devo.

Another brilliant transition ensued into Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Susie Q,” which debuted recently at Fiddler’s GreenMitarotonda led a killer blues rock jam that can only be described as face melting. A vibrant pivot into a twenty minute “Same Old Shenanigans” kept the music going. Anspach was on fire during this succession. As the song developed, Weekz stood out once again during a melodic solo. The quartet was locked in.

The band went into a quick “Slow Ready,” and played the relaxed beginning of their original tune for two minutes. This gave way for “fast:slow,” which is an up-tempo re-work of “Slow Ready” that yields a non-stop disco dance party. The drums and synth were driving this electronically inspired groove as the beat continued to ramp up. Mitarotonda used industrial, synth sounding effects on his guitar during this intense jam, which ended the set with an affirmative bang.

The band stepped off stage to roaring applause before returning for an encore. They took a moment to thank their devoted crew. They played one final tune and spun the crowd around with “You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)” by Dead or Alive.
