Today, acclaimed Nashville singer/songwriter Todd Snider shares the title track from his upcoming LP High, Lonesome and Then Some., due out October 17 via Aimless Records / Thirty Tigers. Chugging along like a freight train, the new song finds Snider on the other side of a breakup, reflecting on what went wrong.
This week, Snider also announced his return to The Caverns in Grundy County, Tennessee on Friday, February 13, bringing his full band down to the cave for the first time. Tickets, camping passes, and add-ons go on sale Friday, September 26 at 9 a.m. CT at TheCaverns.com.
On the new track, Snider shares: “Even cheaper than free. A song is all that anybody ever got outta fallin for a guy like me.”
About the Album
Produced by Aaron Lee Tasjan, Robbie Crowell, and Joe Bisirri, the nine-track LP is a stripped-down, juke-joint collection steeped in the blues. With Tasjan on second guitar, Sterling Finlay on bass, and Crowell on drums, Snider blends rock, country, Southern soul, and dirt-road blues to create his most Southern-sounding record to date.
From the album, Snider previously released “While We Still Have a Chance,” co-written with Chris Robinson (The Black Crowes), a heartfelt plea for one more try. Like much of the record, it leans into themes of loss and hardship. Beyond health struggles, failed romances, and broken business ties, Snider has also weathered the passing of his mentors—including Kris Kristofferson, Jimmy Buffett, and John Prine. The album responds to this grief in what he calls “a song cycle about the effects of love on the human condition.”
Todd Snider’s Legacy
Since his 1994 debut, Snider has built a reputation as one of Americana’s most distinct voices. East Nashville Skyline (2004) remains a touchstone of alt-country, while Peace Queer (2008) and Agnostic Hymns and Stoner Fables (2012) earned praise for their sharp political and social commentary. His songs have been recorded by Loretta Lynn, Tom Jones, and Cross Canadian Ragweed, and his side project Hard Working Americans featured Widespread Panic’s Dave Schools and Duane Trucks.
The New York Times has called him “one of the most distinct voices in modern Americana” and UPROXX lauded him as “a songwriter’s songwriter.” He’s appeared on Conan and The Tonight Show, and earned acclaim from Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Garden & Gun, and many others. More recently, Snider has taken on a mentor role himself, supporting rising stars like Sierra Ferrell and Hayes Carll.
Touring Again
After a hiatus due to spinal stenosis, Snider returned to the road this summer with the newly assembled Todd Snider Band: Finlay, Bissiri, Tasjan, and Crowell. He’ll head West in October before returning to The Caverns next year.
