Taking the stage around 7:35 PM, Welch and Rawlings kicked off the evening with a spirited version of “I Want to Sing That Rock and Roll,” instantly setting a joyful tone. Rawlings, clad initially in his suede jacket, soon became the playful subject of Gillian’s teasing banter, as she wondered aloud when he’d surrender to the rising warmth of the evening. The laughter and gentle ribbing underscored the duo’s easy chemistry, reminiscent of old friends sharing stories on a front porch.

The first set flowed beautifully, with highlights including the reflective beauty of “The Way It Will Be” and the rhythmic pulse of “Cumberland Gap.” By the time Rawlings finally shed his jacket, eliciting cheers and chuckles, he humorously remarked that their modest wardrobe adjustments might be the extent of their stage theatrics. The playful exchange perfectly captured their understated charm and wit.

After a brief intermission, the second set resumed with “Lawman,” a song steeped in narrative tension that held the audience in rapt silence. Each tune that followed—”Hard Times,” “Six White Horses,” and a stirring “Red Clay Halo”—showcased the pair’s remarkable interplay, their voices effortlessly weaving together into one seamless, emotive expression.
