For the first time ever in the United States, revered Hawaiian taiko master Kenny Endo joins forces with Japan’s trad-pop musical virtuoso Hiromitsu Agatsuma on tsugaru-shamisen (the three-stringed banjo-like instrument which originated in Northern Japan) for a one-night only live performance.Endo’s adrenaline-pumping performance is a natural fit with Agatsuma’s fast and aggressive style, as they push the limits of one another’s skills in concert. Known internationally for border-crossing fusion and audience-pleasing expressions of contemporary takes on these venerated instruments, these musicians promise to deliver a dazzling and unforgettable evening in their much-anticipated return to the Japan Society stage. Tickets are available online or by phone through the Japan Society box office at 212-715-1258. The Japan Society box office is open Monday through Friday from 11:00AM to 6:00PM and on weekends from 11:00AM to 5:00PM.
