Fresh on the heels of their self-titled LP released in November 2024, The Snozzberries have dropped two new singles. Entirely self-produced in their rehearsal space, Durt Nap and Just After 2 kick off a new way for the band to release music to their fans quickly.
“We decided that instead of waiting another year and spending a ton of money on studio sessions, we’d rather utilize our resources and go DIY” said Ethan Heller, guitarist. “The band is in a creative flow state, and we really want to share our new sound with our fans as quickly as possible.”
“What makes these releases especially interesting is that we are doing them all as one take, with no overdubs or edits. Everything you see and hear is us live in the studio. We are doing this old-school, as if we are recording to tape with no ability to make edits. If we make a mistake, we have to re-record the entire track.”
Following Hurricane Helene, the Asheville North Carolina-based band made the hard decision to push back the release of their self-titled album for a month. While the rockers were lucky enough to avoid their houses flooding, touring after the storm proved strenuous. “The cars at my house were totaled after the storm, but somehow our band van survived,” Heller said. “We were some of the lucky ones.” But a huge storm always brings change, and for The Snozzberries that change was in their drummer Paul Gladstone’s departure from the band and from Asheville.
The newest addition to the band, Logan Jayne is a powerhouse on drums. He is also the visionary behind the DIY singles being released, as he has taken on the task of mixing and mastering the songs, as well as editing together live music videos for each track.
Durt Nap was the first track in the DIY series. Written by guitarist Ethan Heller with co-writing by bassist Josh Clark, the psych rock anthem features a memorable, crunchy guitar hook at the top, with 3-part vocal harmonies and a timebending bridge section.
The newest track to arrive is Just After 2, which just came out April 4th. The instrumental prog-fusion song was written by Josh Clark, and features a breathtaking bass solo intro, soaring guitar leads, and a brain melting drum solo outro.
The music videos for both of these tracks are captivating, including live footage from the sessions interspersed with public domain clips and flashing lights. The Snozzberries plan on releasing a new song every 3 weeks for the rest of the year, gradually building into a full album’s worth of songs.
