As Phish takes a year off from Labor Day weekend in Denver, we’re taking the Runaway Open to Southern California – and registration is now open. Net proceeds will benefit the choir program at Pasadena Rosebud Academy, which burned down during the recent Eaton Fire.
This year’s outing will be at the woodsy De Bell Golf Club, just over 8 miles from the Hollywood Bowl. With mountain views, separation from LA traffic, lush greens, and some great dog legs, it’ll be a great spot for solid fun and charity.
We’ll be playing after the 2nd show of the run, as usual – Sunday, April 27th. This year will be straight tee times (7-10am), rather than a shotgun structure, to accommodate everyone’s preferences, whether starting at 7 or sleeping until 9.
As usual, we’ll start you with coffee and a schwag bag, including limited-edition event-branded merchandise, and we’ll have a boxed lunch and drink ticket for you on the turn. We’ll also have limited on-course contests (longest drive, closest to pin, hole-in-one, and a Backswing challenge), though this is all about swingin’ sticks with fellow phans for charity. So, don’t sweat it if you’re rusty, new to the game, or prioritizing fun over competition – so are we!
Register here, today! Registration covers all cart, greens, and tournament fees; a bucket of balls to warm-up; coffee, lunch, and a drink ticket; a gift bag of limited-edition event items as well as items contributed by sponsors; and a marginal charitable margin to support music education grants. Some sponsorship options are listed on the registration page, but we welcome your suggestions.
6th Annual Virtual Open
Those unable to be on site can still join in the fun and charity fundraising by taking part in the virtual component – our 6th Annual Virtual Open – using the same 18Birdies app we’ve used since the Fifth Annual went fully online in 2020. This will be an 18-hole, stroke-play event, on any course you want to play, any day from April 20 to 30. Those who participate and make a donation of at least $60 to the Mockingbird Foundation before that window closes, will be sent the same limited-edition event merch being handed out on site, all with the Runaway Open logo.
To play, join the tournament at 18birdies.com/s/AFd-xWrYEXk, or by using tournament code 56566 on the app, or the QR Code below. Those participating on-site may also be interested in joining the virtual tournament. The app has lots of embedded services, offers a free trial period to test it’s distance and training features, and includes a gallery and chat space for those participating.
